How does Passport Check and Send Work?

The simplest and safest way to renew your passport is through our Check and Send service. Our counter staff will make sure that your application is correct and that you have all the information and supporting documents required – giving you peace of mind that your passport application will not be delayed or held up. 

We can also take your photo at one of our branches to ensure it meets UK biometric standards.   

Where Do I Send My Old Passport?

When coming to the Post Office to apply for a new passport, you need to bring your old one with you if you still have it. 

If you’ve changed your name, you’ll also need to bring proof of your new name (such as a marriage certificate). If your passport is lost, you’ll also need the name and email address of someone who can confirm your identity. 

Post Office Passport Renewal

The renewal process of UK passports is conducted in the same way as it is for first-time applicants. For renewal of an adult passport, British citizens must also provide:

• Current passport
• Proof of any changes if applicable
• Countersignatory’s details if the passport was lost or stolen

Digital Check and Send

The Post Office will take your photo and help you to fill in your passport application form online. For a small fee, you’ll be rest assured that everything about your application is correct – potentially saving time having to change any errors or make amendments – which could turn into a lengthy process. By using Check and Send, you’ll avoid any unnecessary mistakes and our counter staff will make doubly sure that all your documents are acceptable.

Digital Check and Send

One of the most well-known identity verification services at the Post Office is the Check and Send and while it’s still possible to do this kind of customer authentication service with paper documentation, it’s much more time efficient to utilise the digital service. The Check and Send passport fee is £16 per passport.

Here’s the process we follow:

1. We’ll take a passport photo of you in-store (adhering to HM Passport Office guidelines)
2. UOE Post Office check your application to ensure it contains the correct information.
3. For renewals – we’ll send your old one to the Passport Office by special delivery
4. We’ll deliver your new passport directly to you when it’s ready.
